Kids need exercise

These boots were made for walking…

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween.  We took my daughter trick or treating and I was inspired to blog about something I saw.  I saw a woman pulling a wagon with two small kids in it, when they got to a house the kids would get out and walk up to the door.  This is an awful thing to do to kids, cheating them out of exercise.  DSCN1717-1Children should only be allowed to trick or treat as far as their legs will take them.  For a 3 year old this is about up the block and back.  If they are younger they may only be able to go to four houses on their own two legs, which is a perfect number for a tiny tike.  The distance a child can walk should dictate how much junk they can eat.  Childhood obesity is rising at insane rates and this is a perfect example of why.  Kids eating complete junk while being discouraged from exercising by their parents, who happen to be their number one role model.  The point of trick or treating is the exercise, if it weren’t, you would just buy a bag of candy and hand it to your kids while they sat on the couch.

My sisters and I dressed as legendary Hollywood starlets.  Here I am as Grace Kelly, with Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe.  I think the most original costume I saw was someone dressed as a shower.
